Four focused questionnaires are received by PHAC. The main results from the questionnaires are added to the investigation line list (Module 3 – Line list).
Question 3-2: Examine the line list containing the main results from the focused questionnaire. What is your interpretation of the information provided?
- Hamburgers appear to be the only common reported exposure – all four of the interviewed cases report eating hamburgers.
- The other suspect food items – romaine lettuce, red bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and strawberries – were reported by two or fewer cases.
- Three cases recalled the brand names of the hamburger products they consumed: two cases reporting “Happy Burger” and one case reporting “Farmer Fred’s” hamburger products.
- Two frozen hamburger samples have been (or will be) collected; these samples will be tested at the laboratory for presence of the same strain of E. coli O157:H7.
