Foodbook is a national food consumption survey conducted by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The second version of the survey, Foodbook 2.0, was conducted from January 2023 to January 2024 using online and phone interviews. Over 21,000 people in Canada were surveyed, with respondents from each province and territory. Respondents were asked about their food, animal and water exposures over the past seven days, as well as their food safety knowledge and practices, and recent acute gastrointestinal illnesses.
Kate Thomas has both an MSc and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Guelph and has been working with the Public Health Agency of Canada since 2010 as a senior epidemiologist and as a manager. Her main areas of work include manager for the National Enteric Surveillance Program (NESP) and targeted studies such as burden of illness estimates and Foodbook.
Megan Tooby is an epidemiologist with the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Outbreak Management Division. She has worked with the Outbreak Management Division since 2019 and has spent much of this time on the Analytics, Improvement and Development team, working on various projects related to enteric illness, including Foodbook.
