Purpose and background:

The content and detail of the chronology will vary with the intensity of the event. The main purpose of the chronology is to provide a high level timeline of when we were informed of or shared key information, as well as when key decisions were made. It might also be used to develop a visual timeline for an event.

Main audience: Investigative team

Supplementary Audiences* : Briefing to senior management, Communications staff (posting to the web), etc.

Key points to document:

  • The chronology should include key pieces of information that describe who, what and when (e.g., when did we know, who did we tell, what did we do about it, etc.).
  • Include key dates, such as:
    • When cluster was identified
    • Date(s) of Assessments calls, OICC activation, OICC teleconferences etc.
    • Public Health Alert was issued or Epidemiological assessment was sent
    • Key food safety investigation findings (e.g. first positive food sample)
  • Case counts should be included and should correspond to the dates on the line list.

The event details should be written in present tense and condensed as possible
